Set Up Shieldeum on a Router (Overview)
Protect every device on your network by setting up Shieldeum VPN directly on your router.
Why Install a VPN on Your Router?
Installing Shieldeum on your router means every device connected to your home network is automatically protected. This includes smart home devices, game consoles, and anything else that does not have its own VPN app.
It also means your VPN connection only counts as one device toward your 10-device limit, regardless of how many gadgets connect through the router.
Compatible Routers
Router-level VPN works best on routers running custom firmware like DD-WRT, OpenWrt, or Tomato. Many ASUS routers also support VPN client configuration natively through their web interface.
Basic ISP-provided routers usually do not support VPN client connections. If your router does not support it, consider purchasing a compatible router or using the Shieldeum app on individual devices instead.
Setup Process
- Log in to your Shieldeum account at the client area
- Navigate to the config generator and select your preferred protocol (OpenVPN or WireGuard)
- Choose a server location and download the configuration file
- Log in to your router's admin panel
- Find the VPN client section and upload the configuration file
- Save settings and enable the VPN connection
Exact steps vary by router model. Check your router's documentation for the VPN client configuration section.
