Fix: VPN Won't Connect (Basic Checklist)

Cannot connect to Shieldeum? Run through this quick checklist to identify and fix the problem.

Basic Checks

  1. Check your internet: Make sure you can browse the web without the VPN. If your internet is down, the VPN cannot connect either.
  2. Restart the app: Close Shieldeum completely and reopen it. This resolves most temporary glitches.
  3. Try a different server: The server you selected might be temporarily unavailable. Pick another location.
  4. Switch protocols: Go to Settings and try a different protocol. If WireGuard is not working, try OpenVPN UDP or TCP.
  5. Update the app: Make sure you are running the latest version of Shieldeum.

Advanced Fixes

  • Firewall or antivirus: Some security software blocks VPN connections. Try temporarily disabling your firewall to test, then add Shieldeum as an exception.
  • Network restrictions: Some networks (corporate, school, public) actively block VPN traffic. Try Stealth mode, which disguises your VPN connection as regular HTTPS traffic.
  • DNS issues: Flush your DNS cache. On Windows, run ipconfig /flushdns in Command Prompt. On macOS, run sudo dscacheutil -flushcache in Terminal.
  • Reinstall: If nothing else works, uninstall Shieldeum, restart your device, and reinstall from scratch.
