Android TV / Fire TV Streaming Troubleshooting
Having streaming issues on your TV with Shieldeum connected? Try these troubleshooting steps.
Common Streaming Issues
If you experience buffering, low quality, or playback errors while streaming with Shieldeum connected, try the following steps. Keep in mind that streaming performance depends on many factors including your internet speed, the streaming service's servers, and server load.
Troubleshooting Steps
- Switch to a closer server: A server nearer to your location reduces latency and improves throughput.
- Use WireGuard: It has the lowest overhead and gives you the best speed for streaming.
- Check your base speed: Disconnect the VPN temporarily and test your internet speed. If it is slow without the VPN too, the issue is with your ISP or network.
- Restart the streaming app: Close and reopen the streaming app after connecting to the VPN.
- Clear the streaming app cache: On Fire TV, go to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications, find the app, and clear its cache.
- Try a wired connection: If your TV supports Ethernet, a wired connection is more stable than Wi-Fi.
Setting Expectations
A VPN can help if your ISP throttles streaming traffic, but it cannot improve speeds beyond what your internet plan provides. For smooth 4K streaming, you generally need at least 25 Mbps. For 1080p, 10 Mbps is usually sufficient.
